Speech delivered at Paljor Stadium marks a milestone in Sikkim’s journey.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the closing ceremony of Sikkim’s 50th year of statehood celebrations in Gangtok. The event took place at Paljor Stadium in the presence of Governor Om Mathur and Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, along with Members of Parliament and citizens.
The Prime Minister congratulated the people of Sikkim on completing 50 years as a state. He praised the state’s natural beauty, peaceful environment, and rich cultural heritage. He also appreciated the cultural performances and the unity displayed during the celebrations.
During his speech, Modi spoke about the importance of tourism in Sikkim’s economy. He encouraged people across India to visit the state, especially highlighting its orchids, biodiversity, and clean environment. He said that Sikkim plays a key role in India’s tourism and ecological balance.
The Prime Minister also highlighted several development projects launched during the event. These included infrastructure, roads, healthcare, education, and tourism projects worth thousands of crores. He emphasized improving connectivity in the region, including highways and railway projects.
Modi spoke about the government’s focus on the North East, calling it “Ashta Lakshmi,” and stressed the importance of the “Act East, Act Fast” policy. He also mentioned initiatives in organic farming, eco-tourism, sports development, and healthcare facilities in Sikkim.
He praised the people of Sikkim for maintaining cleanliness and preserving nature. He also encouraged tourists to support local businesses by buying local products and promoting local culture.
The Prime Minister concluded by expressing gratitude to the people of Sikkim and reaffirming his commitment to the state’s development and future growth.
