The inaugural India–Japan Artificial Intelligence Strategic Dialogue was held on April 21, 2026, in Mumbai, marking a significant step in strengthening technological cooperation between India and Japan.
The Dialogue was co-chaired by Mr. Amit A. The meeting brought together representatives from various ministries, departments, and agencies, along with members of the artificial intelligence industry from both countries.

During the discussions, both sides explored strategic cooperation across the full spectrum of artificial intelligence technologies. The focus was on promoting co-creation, enhancing policy alignment, and encouraging the development of AI-driven solutions in industrial sectors to build a strong, innovative, and trustworthy AI ecosystem.
The dialogue also highlighted the importance of increasing international mobility for AI professionals and expanding joint research initiatives through academic exchanges and collaborative projects. Both countries further discussed cooperation in AI governance, policy formulation, and active participation in multilateral forums.

This initiative builds upon the India-Japan AI Cooperation framework announced during the visit of the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, to Japan in August 2025. It forms a key part of the broader India–Japan Joint Vision for the Next Decade.
Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to working together to address challenges and opportunities in artificial intelligence, aiming to support domestic development goals and foster closer ties between future generations.
