
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi called for stronger India-Norway cooperation in clean energy, maritime industries, innovation, and research while addressing the Norway-India Business and Research Summit in Oslo.
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the Norway-India Business and Research Summit in Oslo in the presence of Prime Minister of Norway H.E. Mr. Jonas Gahr Støre, business leaders, researchers, and industry representatives from both countries.
In his address, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi described India and Norway’s relationship as a “proven partnership” built on trust, technology, and shared growth. He highlighted cooperation between companies such as Orkla, Equinor, and Yara International in sectors including food, energy, and fertilisers, noting that these partnerships are contributing to food, fuel, and fertiliser security.
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi said the implementation of the Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) between India and the European Free Trade Association in October 2025 has opened new opportunities for investment, technology cooperation, and employment generation. He noted that EFTA countries have committed to investing 100 billion dollars in India and creating one million jobs over the next fifteen years.

Highlighting India’s economic transformation, the Prime Minister emphasized reforms in taxation, labour laws, governance, and ease of doing business. He invited Norwegian companies to invest in India’s growing sectors including healthcare, nutrition, clean energy, shipbuilding, green shipping, maritime services, AI, cyber technologies, space, and defence.
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi also noted that nearly 10 percent of Norway’s ships are currently built in India and expressed confidence that this figure could rise to 25 percent within the next five years. He further announced that India and Norway have elevated bilateral ties to a Green Strategic Partnership and highlighted efforts to strengthen research and innovation cooperation through institutions such as CSIR and Norwegian research organisations.
The Prime Minister also informed business leaders that a dedicated trade facilitation desk for Norway has been established within Invest India to support Norwegian investments and business operations in India.
