
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi announced the elevation of India-Norway ties to a Green Strategic Partnership during a joint press statement with the Prime Minister of Norway, highlighting cooperation in clean energy, blue economy, innovation, and global development.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi thanked the Norwegian leadership for the warm welcome and extended greetings on the occasion of Norway’s Constitution Day.
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi recalled that his earlier planned visit to Norway had been postponed following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam last year. He expressed gratitude to Norway for standing firmly with India against terrorism during that difficult period.
Highlighting the changing global environment marked by uncertainty and conflicts in regions such as Ukraine and West Asia, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi said India and Europe are entering a new golden era of partnership. He noted that the recently implemented Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement between India and the European Free Trade Association would create significant opportunities for investment, economic growth, and employment generation in India.
During the discussions, both leaders agreed to elevate India-Norway relations to the level of a Green Strategic Partnership. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi said the partnership would combine India’s scale, speed, and talent with Norway’s technology and capital to develop global solutions in sectors including clean energy, climate resilience, blue economy, and green shipping.
The Prime Minister also highlighted growing cooperation in research, education, innovation, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, digital technologies, and talent mobility. He welcomed enhanced collaboration in Arctic and polar research and appreciated Norway’s support for India’s Arctic research station “Himadri.” He also welcomed the new Memorandum of Understanding between ISRO and the Norwegian Space Agency to strengthen space cooperation.
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi further welcomed Norway’s decision to join the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative and emphasized cooperation in maritime security, marine economy, and capacity building. He said the new triangular development cooperation agreement would help India and Norway jointly contribute to human development projects in the Global South through India’s digital public infrastructure initiatives.
