
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi highlighted the growing India-Europe strategic partnership and called for stronger cooperation in trade, technology, manufacturing, innovation, and resilient supply chains during his address at the European Round Table for Industry in Gothenburg.
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the European Round Table for Industry (ERT) in Gothenburg on 17 May 2026. The interaction was hosted by the Volvo Group and attended by Prime Minister of Sweden H.E. Mr. Ulf Kristersson, President of the European Commission H.E. Ms. Ursula von der Leyen, senior European industry leaders, and representatives from leading Indian and European companies.
In his keynote address, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi highlighted the growing strategic convergence between India and Europe and emphasized the importance of trusted partnerships in an increasingly uncertain global environment. He welcomed the successful conclusion of negotiations for the landmark India-European Union Free Trade Agreement and described it as a transformative partnership that would create major opportunities in trade, technology, manufacturing, services, and resilient supply chains. He also highlighted the importance of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) in strengthening India-Europe business connectivity.
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi said India has emerged as one of the world’s most attractive destinations for investment, innovation, and manufacturing due to rapid economic growth, next-generation reforms, digital public infrastructure, and expanding manufacturing capabilities. Reiterating the vision of “Design for India, Make in India and Export from India,” he invited European companies to deepen their engagement with India as a trusted and reliable economic partner.
The Prime Minister stressed the need for India and Europe to build resilient and diversified supply chains together. He invited European industry leaders to collaborate with India in sectors including AI, semiconductors, electronics, deep-tech manufacturing, green energy, infrastructure, healthcare, and digital technologies. He also emphasized talent mobility, education, and skill partnerships, highlighting India’s young workforce as a key driver of future global economic growth. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi further proposed holding an annual India-Europe CEOs Round Table and establishing an India Desk at ERT to strengthen long-term economic cooperation.
