
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was honoured with Sweden’s highest award for foreign Heads of Government during a special ceremony in Gothenburg. The honour recognized his contribution to strengthening India-Sweden relations.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred with the prestigious ‘Royal Order of the Polar Star, Degree Commander Grand Cross’ by Victoria, Crown Princess of Sweden during a special ceremony held in Gothenburg.
The Royal Order of the Polar Star is one of Sweden’s oldest and most distinguished honours, established in the 18th century. It is the highest honour awarded by Sweden to foreign Heads of Government for exceptional public service and for strengthening ties with Sweden.
Speaking after receiving the honour, Prime Minister Modi expressed heartfelt gratitude to Crown Princess Victoria and the people of Sweden. He dedicated the award to the 1.4 billion people of India and to the strong friendship shared between India and Sweden.
Prime Minister Modi said that the honour reflects the deep historical ties and civilizational connections between the two countries. He also described the award as a symbol of the warmth and mutual respect between the people of India and Sweden.
Notably, Prime Minister Modi became the first Asian leader to receive the Royal Order of the Polar Star, Degree Commander Grand Cross.
The award marks an important milestone in the India-Sweden Strategic Partnership and highlights the growing cooperation between the two nations in areas such as innovation, sustainability, trade, technology, and global peace.
