
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held discussions with leading Swedish business leaders in Gothenburg to strengthen cooperation in innovation, green technology, manufacturing, and sustainable growth.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with Victoria, Crown Princess of Sweden and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, interacted with select Swedish CEOs on 17 May 2026 in Gothenburg.
During the interaction, Prime Minister Modi said that India and Sweden are connected through shared values such as democracy, transparency, innovation, and sustainability. He noted that the partnership between the two countries goes beyond trade and investment and has evolved into a collaboration focused on ideas, technology, innovation, and co-creation.
Prime Minister Modi appreciated the long-standing contribution of Swedish companies to India’s development and encouraged greater collaboration in areas such as research, innovation, green transition, and manufacturing.
Highlighting India’s rapid economic growth, Prime Minister Modi spoke about reforms, strong domestic demand, digital public infrastructure, manufacturing expansion, and modern infrastructure development that are transforming the Indian economy.
He invited Swedish companies to expand their presence in India under major initiatives including Make in India, the National Green Hydrogen Mission, and the National Critical Mineral Mission. He also highlighted opportunities in sectors such as clean energy, defence, semiconductors, advanced manufacturing, and sustainable mobility.
The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in resilient supply chains, life sciences, green technologies, digital innovation, and sustainable transportation. Prime Minister Modi emphasized that Sweden’s strengths in innovation and sustainability combined with India’s scale, talent, and economic momentum can help create solutions for future global challenges.
The meeting further strengthened the India-Sweden Strategic Partnership and reflected the shared commitment of both countries toward innovation-led and sustainable economic growth.
