
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi highlighted growing India-Nordic cooperation in trade, green technology, innovation, sustainability, and strategic partnerships during the joint press statement at the Third India-Nordic Summit.
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the joint press statement at the Third India-Nordic Summit alongside leaders of Nordic countries in Oslo. He thanked Prime Minister of Norway H.E. Mr. Jonas Gahr Støre for hosting the summit and welcomed the leaders of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Sweden, and Norway.
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi said that India and the Nordic countries are natural partners bound by shared commitments to democracy, rule of law, multilateralism, technology, and sustainability. Highlighting the progress made over the past decade, he noted that bilateral trade between India and Nordic countries has nearly quadrupled, while investments from Nordic nations into India have increased by around 200 percent.
The Prime Minister said that the implementation of the Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement with EFTA countries, including Norway and Iceland, along with the recently concluded India-European Union Free Trade Agreement, has opened a new chapter in India-Nordic relations. He described these agreements as the beginning of a new golden era of economic cooperation.
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi announced that India and Nordic countries have decided to strengthen ties through a Green Technology and Innovation Strategic Partnership. He highlighted opportunities to combine Iceland’s expertise in geothermal energy and fisheries, Norway’s strengths in blue economy and Arctic cooperation, Sweden’s advanced manufacturing and defence capabilities, Finland’s telecom and digital technologies, and Denmark’s cybersecurity and health-tech expertise with India’s scale and talent to develop trusted global solutions.
The Prime Minister also emphasized stronger cooperation in research, innovation, startup ecosystems, Arctic and polar research, skill development, and talent mobility. Addressing global challenges, he reaffirmed the commitment of India and Nordic countries towards a rules-based global order, reforms in multilateral institutions, and a united stand against terrorism with “no compromise and no double standards.”
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi said the India-Nordic partnership can become a global model for shared prosperity, innovation, and a sustainable future.
