
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi marked 11 years of Digital India on 1 July, saying the initiative has transformed governance, empowered citizens, strengthened public service delivery and laid a strong foundation for a developed and self-reliant India.
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on Tuesday marked the 11th anniversary of the Digital India initiative, highlighting its impact on governance, public services and citizens’ daily lives.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister said Digital India had “redefined governance, empowered citizens and accelerated all-round development”. He said the initiative had made governance more transparent, efficient and citizen-centric.
Shri Modi noted that Digital India has touched several aspects of public life, including digital payments, Direct Benefit Transfers and Digital Public Infrastructure. He said technology had become a powerful instrument for improving the Ease of Living.
The Prime Minister said the adoption of technology by more than a billion Indians had helped drive a major transformation across the country. He described Digital India as a key foundation for building a Viksit Bharat.
He also underlined the spread of innovation beyond major urban centres. According to the Prime Minister, Digital India has carried the wave of innovation to villages and Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.
Shri Modi said young entrepreneurs, startups and innovators from across India were creating solutions for major global challenges. He added that the initiative had strengthened education, healthcare, agriculture, commerce and public service delivery.
Highlighting India’s progress in emerging technologies, the Prime Minister referred to advances in Artificial Intelligence, semiconductors and quantum computing. He said these areas would open new avenues for growth and opportunity.
Shri Modi reaffirmed the Government’s focus on building a future where technology serves humanity, empowers every citizen and supports sustainable development.
The Digital India initiative was launched to expand digital infrastructure, improve online delivery of services and promote digital empowerment. Eleven years on, the Government is positioning it as a central pillar of India’s long-term development agenda and the vision of Viksit Bharat.
