ANANTHAPURAMU | 1 July 2026: The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, on Wednesday graced the first convocation ceremony of the Central University of Andhra Pradesh (CUAP) in Ananthapuramu, urging graduates to cultivate the courage to explore new ideas, continuously acquire new knowledge and contribute to India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation by 2047.
Describing the occasion as a landmark in the university’s history, the President said the inaugural convocation represented both a celebration of academic achievement and a defining milestone in the institution’s growth. She expressed confidence that the university would evolve into a centre of excellence while supporting the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
President Murmu noted that CUAP had adopted a long-term vision of becoming a future-ready institution. She welcomed its commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to quality education, saying the approach reflected a strong commitment to inclusive and equitable development.

Addressing the graduating students, the President congratulated all degree recipients and offered special appreciation to the gold medallists. She observed that female students had outperformed their male counterparts in securing gold medals, describing their success as a reflection of the growing aspirations and determination of young women across India.
The President also highlighted the university’s diverse student community, noting that learners from most Indian states study at the institution. She said such diversity creates an environment where different languages, traditions and cultures interact daily, strengthening national unity while enriching the educational experience.
Emphasising the importance of gratitude and social responsibility, President Murmu reminded graduates that their success reflected not only their personal effort but also the sacrifices of their parents, the guidance of teachers and the support of society.
She encouraged students to give back to society through their chosen professions, whether as entrepreneurs creating employment, scientists advancing innovation, public servants serving citizens or philanthropists supporting disadvantaged communities.
Referring to the graduating class as the university’s first alumni, the President said they would shape the institution’s reputation through their achievements and conduct. She urged them to remain connected with their alma mater and serve as ambassadors of the university wherever their careers take them.
Highlighting the rapid pace of technological change, President Murmu said learning should continue well beyond graduation. She stressed that adapting to emerging technologies would be essential in an evolving global environment and encouraged students to remain open to new ideas throughout their lives.
The President also welcomed the university’s decision to introduce Artificial Intelligence and Data Science as compulsory courses for undergraduate and postgraduate students, stating that such initiatives would prepare young people for future opportunities and challenges.
Calling India’s youth among the country’s greatest national assets, she said their resilience, creativity and determination could transform challenges into opportunities while contributing to a more inclusive and prosperous society.
President Murmu emphasised that the vision of Viksit Bharat could only be realised through the energy, talent and commitment of young Indians. She urged graduates to pursue excellence with dedication and integrity, regardless of the careers they choose.
Concluding her address, the President underscored the importance of ethical values, stating that honesty, compassion, empathy and respect for nature are not merely moral ideals but fundamental pillars of holistic development. She said these values would enable graduates to lead meaningful lives while making lasting contributions to society and the nation.
