Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal announced a major initiative to bring all Commerce Ministry offices under one roof in Mumbai. The move aims to improve efficiency, reduce administrative costs, promote green governance, and support India’s ambitious export targets.
Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal on May 15, 2026 unveiled a major plan to establish a single integrated hub for all Commerce and Industry Ministry offices in Mumbai.
The initiative aims to co-locate multiple offices and organizations functioning under the Ministry into one centralized facility to improve public service delivery and make government interaction easier for businesses and citizens.
Speaking during a review meeting of Ministry offices in Mumbai, Shri Goyal said the proposal is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Ease of Living” and “Ease of Doing Business.” He stated that citizens should experience seamless and convenient access whenever they interact with government departments.

The Minister pointed out that Mumbai currently has 20 offices belonging to 12 different organizations operating from various locations across the city. These offices occupy large amounts of premium commercial space worth hundreds of crores of rupees. Under the new plan, the Ministry intends to bring these offices together wherever possible into one integrated complex.
The proposed hub will feature advanced audio-visual infrastructure and digitally connect stakeholders with 46 organizations functioning under the Ministry. Even organizations without physical branches in Mumbai, including the Spices Board, will be accessible through the centralized system.
According to Shri Goyal, dedicated personnel will be available at the integrated hub to address stakeholder requirements efficiently. He said the move would significantly reduce administrative expenses, improve productivity, and simplify government processes for businesses and the general public.
The Minister also highlighted the environmental benefits of the initiative. He said the co-location model would promote green governance by conserving energy, reducing fuel consumption, and cutting down unnecessary travel for both citizens and government officials.
Shri Goyal further stated that India’s export promotion missions will operate directly from these integrated offices. The centralized structure is expected to strengthen trade facilitation efforts and support India’s ambitious export goals of reaching $1 trillion in exports this year and $2 trillion by 2030.
The initiative is being viewed as a major administrative reform aimed at creating a more efficient, technology-driven, and citizen-friendly governance system while boosting India’s global trade competitiveness.
