
Republic of Korea President’s first India visit focuses on trade, technology, and deepening bilateral cooperation.
H.E. Lee Jae Myung, President of the Republic of Korea, undertook a State Visit to India from April 19 to 21, 2026, at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This marked President Lee’s first official visit to India. He was accompanied by First Lady Kim Hea Kyung and a high-level delegation including ministers, senior officials, and business leaders.

President Lee arrived in New Delhi, where he was warmly received by Minister of State Shri Harsh Malhotra. A ceremonial welcome was accorded at Rashtrapati Bhavan by President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting the importance of the visit.

During the visit, President Lee Jae Myung held extensive talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, focusing on strengthening cooperation in areas such as shipbuilding, trade, investment, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and emerging technologies. Both leaders also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest. Prime Minister Modi hosted a lunch in honour of the visiting dignitary.
President Lee also met President Droupadi Murmu, who hosted a state banquet in his honour. Additionally, S. Jaishankar called on the visiting leader to further discussions on enhancing bilateral ties.

As part of his visit, President Lee paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat, honouring the values of peace and non-violence.

India and the Republic of Korea share a Special Strategic Partnership based on shared democratic values and long-standing cultural connections. The visit further strengthened cooperation across traditional sectors while expanding collaboration into new and emerging areas, reinforcing ties between the two nations.
