
Both nations discuss expanding cooperation in trade, defence, and technology, while reaffirming strong bilateral ties during talks in Malta.
India and Malta successfully held the 4th Round of Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) in Valletta on 27 March 2026, marking another important step in strengthening bilateral relations.
The consultations were co-chaired by Ambassador Sibi George, Secretary (West), Ministry of External Affairs, from the Indian side, and Christopher Cutajar, Permanent Secretary at Malta’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Tourism.
During the visit, Ambassador Sibi George met Ian Borg, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malta. Both sides discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation and expand engagement across sectors. He also met Brigadier Clinton J O’Neill to enhance defence and security cooperation.
Both countries reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral relations and expressed satisfaction with steady progress. The milestone of 60 years of diplomatic ties in 2025 reflects the long-standing partnership between India and Malta. Officials welcomed the growing momentum in high-level engagements.

Key discussions focused on trade, investment, tourism, technology, innovation, maritime cooperation, and educational and cultural exchanges. Both sides agreed to deepen cooperation in sectors such as ICT, healthcare, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, and education, while also enhancing economic ties in light of the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement.
According to the High Commission of India in Malta on X, the consultations concluded successfully with discussions covering political, economic, social, educational, and technological fields, along with the maritime sector and continued cooperation in multilateral platforms.
Both sides also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest and reaffirmed their commitment to working together internationally. Ambassador Sibi George further engaged with business leaders in Malta to promote stronger trade, investment, and business partnerships.
The consultations highlight the shared vision of India and Malta to deepen cooperation and explore new opportunities for growth across multiple sectors.
