
The Prime Minister met Indian diaspora leaders and Azad Hind Fauj veterans, praising their role in Malaysia’s development and India–Malaysia relations.
The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, interacted today with distinguished members of the Indian diaspora in Malaysia.
The interaction included select leaders of Indian origin such as Ministers, Senators, Members of Parliament, and veterans of the Azad Hind Fauj (Indian National Army – INA). Those present included Tuan Gobind Singh Deo, Minister of Digital; Dato’ Sri Ramanan Ramakrishnan, Minister of Human Resources; Tuan M. Kulasegaran, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department; and Tuan R. Yuneswaran, Deputy Minister of National Unity, among others.
During the interaction, the Prime Minister highlighted the strong contribution of the Indian diaspora to Malaysia’s progress and development. He said the community plays an important role in strengthening ties between India and Malaysia.
The PIO leaders appreciated the Prime Minister’s leadership in building a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries. They also praised his vision and initiatives aimed at transforming India and deepening India–Malaysia relations.
The diaspora leaders thanked the Prime Minister for several welfare measures for the Indian community in Malaysia. These included India’s decision to open its first Consulate in Malaysia, the announcement of a Thiruvalluvar Center at Universiti Malaya, the institution of Thiruvalluvar scholarships, the extension of OCI Card eligibility up to the sixth generation of Indian-origin people in Malaysia, and the replenishment of the Indian Scholarships Trust Fund with 3 million Malaysian Ringgit for Malaysian Indian students.
The Prime Minister also met Dato’ Jeyaraj Raja Rao, a veteran of the Balak Sena of the Azad Hind Fauj, and Mr. Rathakrishnan, President of the Netaji Welfare Foundation. He expressed deep respect for the courage and sacrifices of INA veterans and reaffirmed the Government of India’s commitment to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s vision of a strong and modern India.
