Speaking at an ORF discussion, Dr. S. Jaishankar underlined self-reliance, multipolarity, South-South cooperation, and emerging trade trends as key drivers of development.
India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, joined the annual panel discussion hosted by the Observer Research Foundation (ORF) in New York on the theme “At The Heart of Development: Aid, Trade & Technology.”
During the session, Dr. Jaishankar stressed that in a world marked by uncertainty, several interconnected trends will shape the future of global development. He noted that self-reliance, technology, multipolarity, and South-South cooperation would reinforce one another, strengthening resilience and partnerships across nations.
He highlighted the rise of a global workforce adapting to contemporary requirements, as well as the role of trade in overcoming tariff and non-tariff barriers. According to Dr. Jaishankar, this will generate new priorities, create fresh flows, and make greater use of both physical and digital efficiencies.
The External Affairs Minister also pointed to the emergence of new trade arrangements and understandings, which are increasingly being driven by new global concerns and compulsions.
The discussion brought together policymakers and experts to explore how aid, trade, and technology can support development in a shifting international order.
