India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar hosted a High-Level Meeting of Like-Minded Global South Countries in New York on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA80).
In his X post, Dr. Jaishankar said that in the face of multiple global risks and concerns, it was natural for the Global South to turn to multilateralism for solutions. During the meeting, he put forward several proposals to strengthen cooperation among developing nations.

He also encouraged nations to share their unique strengths and achievements, such as expertise in vaccines, digital technologies, education, agriculture, and small business culture.
On climate change, Dr. Jaishankar stressed the need for initiatives that serve the interests of the Global South, rather than those shaped primarily by the Global North. He also highlighted the promise of emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), as areas of opportunity for developing countries.
