The package includes new hospitals, infrastructure projects, maritime development, and budgetary support to strengthen bilateral ties.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India and Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam of Mauritius announced a Special Economic Package during the Mauritian leader’s state visit to India. The package reflects India’s continued commitment to Mauritius’ development and its role as a trusted partner in the Indian Ocean region.
Following detailed discussions, the two sides agreed to jointly implement several projects across healthcare, infrastructure, aviation, and maritime sectors.
Projects on Grant Basis (USD 215 million / MUR 9.80 billion):
- Construction of a new Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam National Hospital
- Establishment of an AYUSH Centre of Excellence
- Creation of a Veterinary School and Animal Hospital
- Provision of helicopters
Projects on Grant-cum-Line of Credit Basis (USD 440 million / MUR 20.10 billion):
- Completion of the new ATC Tower at SSR International Airport
- Development of Motorway M4
- Expansion of Ring Road Phase II
- Acquisition of port equipment by Cargo Handling Corporation Ltd (CHCL)
On the strategic front, both governments agreed in principle on the redevelopment and restructuring of Port Louis and enhanced surveillance of the Chagos Marine Protected Area.
Additionally, India will extend budgetary support of USD 25 million to Mauritius in the current financial year.
The Special Economic Package, valued at over USD 655 million (MUR 29.9 billion), is designed to support Mauritius’ development priorities, boost connectivity, and strengthen its healthcare and maritime capacity. Both sides reaffirmed that the package represents not just assistance, but an investment in the shared future of India and Mauritius.
