
The two leaders reviewed bilateral cooperation, discussed the Ukraine conflict, and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the India–Russia Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Tianjin, China on September 1, 2025.
The discussions focused on key areas of economic, financial, and energy cooperation, with both leaders expressing satisfaction at the sustained growth in bilateral ties. They agreed to continue building momentum across these sectors.
On regional and global issues, the two leaders exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine. Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s support for recent peace initiatives and stressed the importance of expediting a cessation of hostilities and working towards a durable peace settlement.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership, a cornerstone of India–Russia relations. Prime Minister Modi also conveyed that he looks forward to welcoming President Putin to India later this year for the 23rd Annual Bilateral Summit.
