Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, today inaugurated TDK Corporation’s state-of-the-art Advanced Technologies Lithium-ion (Li-ion) Battery Plant in Sohna, Haryana. The facility, capable of producing 20 crore battery packs annually, will meet nearly 40% of India’s demand and create 5,000 jobs, marking a major step in the country’s journey towards Atmanirbhar Bharat.
Speaking at the inauguration, Shri Vaishnaw described the plant as a turning point in India’s electronics ecosystem, aligned with the vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. He said, “This is a very important milestone for us as we fulfil the Prime Minister’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. Whether it is camera modules, PCB assembly, semiconductors, or batteries—every component will be manufactured in our country over the coming years. The arrival of such advanced technology in India is a major milestone for our self-reliance in electronics.”
The new plant will domestically manufacture Li-ion batteries used in mobile phones, wearables, hearables, laptops, and other electronics. With a capacity of 20 crore battery packs per year, the facility will cover nearly 40% of India’s current annual requirement of 50 crore packs, while offering significant potential for expansion.
Established under the Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) Scheme, the plant is expected to generate 5,000 direct jobs, with employees already receiving specialized training at the AT Bawal plant. Shri Vaishnaw acknowledged the support of the Haryana government in enabling the setup of advanced electronics manufacturing units in the state.

The inauguration of the Sohna plant comes close on the heels of another landmark—the presentation of the first Made-in-India semiconductor chips to the Prime Minister during Semicon India 2025. Together, these milestones underline India’s growing capabilities across the electronics value chain.
With initiatives spanning semiconductors, batteries, PCB assemblies, and camera modules, India is steadily advancing towards building a complete and globally competitive electronics manufacturing ecosystem. This not only reduces import dependence but also strengthens the country’s position as a trusted partner in the global supply chain.
