The leaders marked 60 years of diplomatic ties and discussed stronger cooperation in trade, technology, and people-to-people exchanges.
H.E. Mr. Lawrence Wong, Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore, called on the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, at Rashtrapati Bhavan on September 4, 2025.
Welcoming the Singapore Prime Minister, President Murmu said that India and Singapore are important partners for each other. She described Singapore as a key partner in India’s Act East Policy and its Vision for the Indo-Pacific.
The President highlighted that this year carries special significance as it marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Singapore. She recalled the visit of Singapore’s President Tharman Shanmugaratnam to India in January, as well as the recent 3rd India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable held in New Delhi, which saw the participation of six senior Singaporean ministers including Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan. She also noted that the bilateral relationship was elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Singapore last year.
President Murmu expressed happiness that Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and Prime Minister Modi jointly laid out a Roadmap for the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership earlier today. She said that the new bilateral agreements would enhance cooperation in emerging fields such as the green economy, space, civil aviation, financial technology, and skill development.
On economic ties, the President underlined that Singapore is a major source of foreign investment in India, with investments continuing to grow. She also acknowledged the strengthening defence partnership through regular bilateral exercises and training. President Murmu further appreciated the significant contribution of the Indian diaspora in Singapore in deepening cultural and people-to-people ties.
Both leaders agreed that frequent high-level exchanges are a defining feature of the India-Singapore partnership and expressed confidence that bilateral relations will continue to grow in strength in the years to come.
