
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, along with Japanese Prime Minister H.E. Mr. Shigeru Ishiba, visited Tokyo Electron Miyagi Ltd (TEL Miyagi) in Sendai on 30 Aug, 2025 , highlighting India–Japan collaboration in the semiconductor sector.
At the facility, the leaders were briefed on TEL’s role in the global semiconductor value chain, its advanced manufacturing systems, and its collaborations with India. The visit provided insights into opportunities for deeper cooperation in semiconductor supply chains, fabrication, and testing.
The Sendai visit underscored the complementarity between India’s fast-growing semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem and Japan’s expertise in semiconductor equipment and technology. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to advance this partnership, building on the Japan–India Semiconductor Supply Chain MoC, the India–Japan Industrial Competitiveness Partnership, and the Economic Security Dialogue.
PM Modi and PM Ishiba emphasized their shared vision of developing robust, resilient, and trusted semiconductor supply chains. Prime Minister Modi expressed gratitude to his counterpart for accompanying him on the visit and reiterated India’s readiness to work closely with Japan in this strategic domain.
Following the factory tour, Prime Minister Ishiba hosted a lunch in honour of Prime Minister Modi in Sendai. The event was also attended by the Governor of Miyagi Prefecture and other dignitaries.
