Dr. S. Jaishankar attends G7 meeting in France, discusses global security, trade corridors, and governance reforms.
India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, visited France on 26 and 27 March 2026 and participated in the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting with partner countries. The meeting was held at Abbaye des-Vaux-de-Cernay following an invitation from France’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot.
During the meeting, Dr. Jaishankar highlighted several global issues. He discussed cross-cutting threats, including concerns about sovereignty and the growing risks of narco-terror linkages. He also stressed the importance of freedom of navigation for global economic security.

At discussions on critical minerals, he appreciated ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation across the value chain. In another session, he shared India’s views on the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), noting that ongoing conflicts in West Asia made resilient trade routes and supply chains more important. He added that India’s free trade agreements with the European Union, EFTA countries, and the United Kingdom increased the value of this initiative.
Dr. Jaishankar also addressed reforms in global governance. He emphasized the urgent need to reform the United Nations Security Council, improve peacekeeping operations, and strengthen humanitarian supply chains. He raised concerns of the Global South, especially related to energy challenges, fertiliser availability, and food security.

On the sidelines of the meeting, the External Affairs Minister held bilateral talks with his counterparts from participating countries. The visit highlighted India’s active role in global discussions on security, trade, and governance.
