
India and CELAC ministers agreed to deepen cooperation across multiple sectors and called for reforms in global institutions during their meeting at UNGA80.
External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar co-chaired the India-CELAC (Community of Latin American and Caribbean States) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New York on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA80). The meeting was co-chaired along with Colombia’s Foreign Minister Rosa Yolanda Villavicencio.
During the discussions, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening broad-based cooperation in key fields such as agriculture, trade, health, digital initiatives, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR), and capacity building.
Looking ahead, India and CELAC agreed to explore partnerships in emerging sectors including artificial intelligence, advanced technology, critical minerals, space collaboration, and renewable energy.
The ministers also underlined their shared view that multilateral institutions must be reformed to better represent the Voice of the Global South, ensuring fairer and more inclusive global governance.
The meeting highlighted the growing importance of India-CELAC ties and their joint resolve to advance sustainable development and stronger South-South cooperation.
