External Affairs Minister emphasizes balanced AI governance, trust, and inclusion at the Trust & Safety India (TASI) Festival in New Delhi, ahead of the 2026 AI Impact Summit.
New Delhi, October 7, 2025 — External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr. S. Jaishankar addressed the Trust & Safety India (TASI) Festival 2025, underscoring India’s commitment to responsible and inclusive artificial intelligence (AI) governance. The event, organized by the Centre for Social Research India and led by Dr. Ranjana Kumari, served as a prelude to the upcoming AI Impact Summit scheduled for February 2026.
In his remarks, Dr. Jaishankar emphasized that the evolution of technology has always brought both opportunities and challenges. “The promise and the perils have always been two sides of the same coin,” he said, stressing that the choices made today will determine whether AI empowers or exploits societies.
He noted that AI will deeply transform economies, healthcare, education, and governance. However, he cautioned that this transformation would also bring new risks, including bias, ethical dilemmas, and threats to privacy. The Minister echoed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s view that “technology is a force for good, but only if humanity guides it.”
Highlighting India’s leadership in developing digital public infrastructure, Dr. Jaishankar said that many Global South countries look to India as a model. He called for the creation of indigenous AI tools, self-assessment frameworks, and ethical guidelines to ensure that AI remains safe, accessible, and equitable.
The Minister also reiterated India’s global advocacy for responsible AI governance through platforms such as the G20, the Global Partnership on AI, and international summits in Bletchley Park, Seoul, and Paris. He stated that India will continue to promote trust, safety, and accountability in global AI policies, with the AI Impact Summit 2026 expected to advance this mission.
Concluding his address, Dr. Jaishankar stressed the importance of “multi-stakeholdership” in AI governance, describing the TASI Festival as a significant step toward inclusive and people-centric technology development.
