The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, commemorates the third anniversary of the National Logistics Policy (NLP), launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 17th September 2022. Over the last three years, the NLP has emerged as a game-changer, strengthening digital integration, multimodal infrastructure, sustainability, and sector-specific policy frameworks. These reforms have significantly improved India’s logistics efficiency, reducing costs, enhancing competitiveness, and supporting its rise in the global Logistics Performance Index (LPI).
Key Highlights of NLP Achievements (2022–2025):
1. Digital Integration and Real-Time Visibility
- Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP): Facilitated secure integration of 30+ digital systems with over 160 crore transactions completed.
- Logistics Data Bank: Tracked 75 million EXIM containers across 101 Inland Container Depots (ICDs) for better transparency and planning.
- E-Logs Portal: Onboarded 35+ associations, resolving 100+ issues raised by stakeholders.
2. Policy Innovations and Performance Monitoring
- LEADS Index: Incorporated digital logistics, corridor access, terminal speed, and sustainability metrics, driving India’s improvement to 38th position in the World Bank LPI.
- LEAPS Initiative: Recognizes logistics innovation among MSMEs, startups, and academia, with a focus on green and ESG practices.
- Sectoral Policy for Efficient Logistics (SPEL): Industry-specific frameworks initiated for coal, cement, steel, fertilizers, food processing, and pharmaceuticals.
3. Green and Sustainable Logistics
- Transportation Emissions Measurement Tool (TEMT): Developed with IIM Bangalore, aligned with ISO 14083 standards.
- Green Practices: Logistics providers encouraged to adopt renewable energy and sustainable transport solutions.
- Women’s Participation: A study with GIZ initiated to promote gender inclusion in logistics.
4. Skill Development and Capacity Building
- 65,000+ professionals trained between 2023–2025.
- 100+ universities offering logistics-related courses.
- MoU with GatiShakti Vishwavidyalaya for UG and PG programs in logistics.
- 250+ workshops conducted for government officials, alongside digital modules on iGoT platform.
5. Multimodal Infrastructure and State Engagement
- Development of Multi-Modal Logistics Parks (MMLPs) integrating customs, cold storage, and packaging services.
- City Logistics Plans (CLPs): Guidelines issued to reduce congestion, pollution, and costs.
- State-Level Progress:
- 27 States/UTs formulated State Logistics Policies.
- 19 States granted industry status to logistics.
- 14 States prepared Logistics Action Plans.
The Government remains committed to strengthening the logistics ecosystem through the ‘Whole of Government’ approach under PM GatiShakti, supported by stakeholder engagement, public-private partnerships, and innovative financing mechanisms. The National Logistics Policy continues to be the cornerstone for achieving efficient, inclusive, and sustainable logistics, aligning India’s supply chains with global benchmarks.
